Mummified Hamburger Meal

This is an actual Hamburger Fries and Coke mummified in the ancient manner - it will never deteriorate or decay.
This piece is an award winner from its first ever public showing:
Innovations in Fiber Arts - Sebastapol, Ca 2006

Step by Step - How to...

This is a documentary record of the mummification process
which explains in detail what steps were taken to achieve the final result.
This triptych usually accompanies the above mummy in exhibitions.

Hamburger Meal - X-ray light box

The mummy was taken to a medical lab and X-rayed
in keeping with the standard practice of using this
technique to 'look inside' valuable mummies without damaging them.
The original X-ray image was combined in the computer with the corporate-hieroglyphic font
(hidden messages are available to those who take the time to translate).
The final outcome is a set of 24" x 48" backlit lightboxes.
This image is available as a large format postcard which has appeared accompanying
a set of editioned handmade postcards at:
The Lab in San Francisco, Ca and the Outpost for Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, Ca.

Hamburger Canopics

The guts of the Hamburger were removed in the mummification process (keeping with tradition)
and were placed in individual canopic 'jars'.
For this piece I chose to cast the items in resin and build mustabas with underlighting.

Individally Mummified French Fry with Prayer card 1 of 100.

This faux package design is exactly as the title suggests.
All the label and prayer card information can be translated given the proper 'key'.
This item is meant as an offering much like the ancients
brought to their temples or like the candles and incense which are often lit today.
This piece was selected to appear in the International small print Exhibition in Kenosha, Wisconsin - 2006

Mummified Decoy Duck

This was more of a sight gag and a riddle rather than a deeply conceptual piece,
yet over time certain themes seem to resonate with the larger body of work.
I love it for the clarity of form and silhouette.

Decoy Duck's Canopic Cans

These are the canned hunting accessories which belong with the Decoy Duck Mummy.
These 4 along with a poster of the above duck image are in the gallery Sei-Un-Do in Zurich, Switzerland 2006.

Mummified Cymbal Monkey

This little fellow is a symbol of lost innocence - he seems to me so sad lonely and naive in contrast to today's toys.

Cymbal Monkey - Canopic Package 1 of 4

This is one of the 4 packages containing the parts which were left over after the Monkey was prepared for wrapping.

Mummified Roadkill on crushed red velvet with gilded frame

This poor animal was flattened by a motor vehicle and dessicated naturally on the roadside.
I wrapped him and present him here with reverence and a prayer.
The text refers to the way I see him - as a sacrifice to our gas guzzling automobile-crazed religion of consumerism.
